Beginner’s Guide to Prepare for Camping
August 25, 2022

Camping is a good pastime activity that offers several benefits, from enjoying nature to developing your survival skills and creating time to bond with your camping group. If you want to go camping and have no clue where to start, these expert camping tips will make your preparations easy for an enjoyable camping experience.

1. Plan for a Bad Weather

The weather is usually unpredictable, and you may likely experience different weather from what you saw on the weather report. With the right supplies, you won’t be caught unawares with weather that puts your health at risk and shortens your camping trip.

Ensure you pack the following.

  • A warm hat
  • Layers of warm clothes
  • Waterproof clothing
  • Insect repellant
  • Sun protection

2. Check the Weather Forecast

Although the weather forecast may not be accurate, you still need to check it to give you an idea of want to expect.

3. Plan Camping Activities in Advance

Before you set out for any camping adventure, check the activities you can carry out at your destination. If the campsite is organized, check their activity suggestions, as this helps you know the right things to carry along from home. It also makes your camping group look forward to the fun activities.

4. Pack a First Aid Kit

You may not need the first aid kit, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared to handle health emergencies. You’ll need basic first aid supplies such as bandages, gauze, antibacterial ointment, and pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen.

5. Pack a Lighting Source

Electricity isn’t a classic utility at camping sites, so you’d need a lighting source for after-dark hours. You can pack a flashlight or headlamp and confirm if your tent has a convenient spot to hang a lantern. Otherwise, opt for a free-standing light.

6. Pack a Portable Charger

If you are camping for a few days, your phone will likely run out of battery. While you may not need the entertainment on your phone while camping, your phone needs to remain on in the case of an emergency.

7. Pack Portable Chairs and Table

Except you intend to take the primitive style of sitting on wood logs and lounging on the ground, you would need a few chairs and a table, depending on your group size.

8 Always Check for Campsite Rules.

Most campsites have rules that guide camping in the area. These rules ensure everyone is safe and comfortable. While preparing for camping, look up the campsite’s instructions online, as this also helps you know if the campsite will meet your needs.

9. Plan your Meals Ahead

Cooking at the campsite will be easier if you know what you want to make and have all the necessary ingredients. Since you won’t be in your kitchen with all you need for meal preparations and may not be able to leave the campsite to get ingredients, ensure you pack all necessary cooking ingredients. You can consider meal options that do not require cooking, so you don’t have to do a lot of cooking while camping.
